GPAC Board member Jordi Calzada, Duncan Williams, Guild Member Pat Scroggs, and GPAC Executive Director Paul Chandler

The partnership with Duncan-Williams has inspired GPAC to expand its reach and mission through partnering with other performing and visual arts organizations. Beginning this season, we will work towards celebrating and growing these relationships.

University of Memphis

The University of Memphis, Department of Architecture – 4th Year Interior Design students, have partnered with GPAC to help them envision a 21st Century redesign.  The mission of the Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC) is to serve the community by presenting the highest quality artistic endeavors to engage, enrich, and transform.  The students were challenged to engage, enrich, and transform the existing structure into a space that improves organizational quality and exemplifies the growth of GPAC over the past 20 years.  The design challenge also included re-thinking their traditional norms of design process, development, and presentation by incorporating artifacts that embody the spirit of the new GPAC design concept; thus, demonstrating how design can be performing art.

On December 4th a group of 5 GPAC employees went to the University of Memphis Campus to see the presentation of the Department of Architecture - 4th year Interior Design students final project. The project called "GPAC - Design as a Performing Art" shows the creativity and imagination of the students as they re-design the interior and exterior space of GPAC.  The projects will be on display in the GPAC Lobby through the month of December

History and Mission

The mission of the Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC) is to serve the community by presenting the highest quality artistic endeavors to educate, engage, enrich and transform. GPAC is located in the heart of Shelby County, serves the greater metro Memphis area of over a million people and is accessible to all members of the community. The GPAC theater is an acoustically perfect, 864 seat venue featuring a sprung pine stage, an intimate black box theater, an elegant patron lounge, eight spacious dressing rooms and a large lobby for entertaining and assembling. Currently in our 21st season, GPAC presents world renowned performing artists in a variety of genres, year round educational activities for all ages including the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra, rotating visual art exhibits and many community events welcoming over 100,000 visitors annually. The organization benefits from the infrastructure of a professional organization that possesses a clear direction, strong financial health, professional seasoned staff and a dedicated board of directors.
