PIANIST YEFIM BRONFMAN CLOSES IRIS SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
4/07/03

Widely regarded as one of the most talented virtuoso pianists performing today, Yefim Bronfman's commanding technique and exceptional lyrical gifts have won him consistent critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences worldwide. A Grammy award winning Sony Classical recording artist, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize in 1991, one of the highest honors given to American instrumentalists. On May 3, he will perform Samuel Barber's Souvenirs with the IRIS Chamber Orchestra. The season III finale will include Robert Schumanns Overture to Manfred and Johannes Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major.

Since his New York Philharmonic debut in May 1978, Bronfman has been a welcome guest with every major orchestra and at every great concert venue worldwide. He is also regularly invited to the most important summer festivals. In 2002, he toured with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and Emanuel Ax in duo-piano recitals. To mark the worldwide celebrations of Lorin Maazel's 70th birthday, he toured with Maazel in a violin and piano recital, beginning in Carnegie Hall and continuing throughout the major capitals of Europe.

Born in Tashkent, in the Soviet Union, Bronfman immigrated to Israel with his family in 1973 and studied with pianist Arie Vardi, head of the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University. He made his international debut two years later with Zubin Mehta and the Montreal Symphony. In the United States, he studied at The Juilliard School, Marlboro and the Curtis Institute with Rudolf Firkusny, Leon Fleisher and Rudolf Serkin. He became an American citizen in July 1989.
