Peanut Butter and Jam Session Takes a World Tour
Kalimbas, Agogos and Riqs - oh, my! Instruments from across the globe were found in abundance at GPAC's Peanut Butter and Jam Session "World Tour" on Saturday, March 25. Attendees took a trip around the world as musicians Sean Murphy, Jason Northcutt, Gerald Stephens and Ekpe demonstrated an amazing array of musical instruments. From the rhythm of the djembe drums and agogo bells of Africa to the soft sigh of the Tibetan Singing Bowls, the four musicians evoked the sounds of birds and rain in performances embracing rhythms of cultures around the world.
GPAC's Peanut Butter and Jam Sessions are designed to introduce children ages 3-6 to a wide variety of instruments and musical styles. This season, programs have featured a string quartet, jazz and percussion ensembles, an Irish fiddle band and a woodwind quintet performing "Peter and the Wolf." Still to come are "Sing a Song" on April 22 and "Cajun Band" on May 6 with two performances each Saturday, at 9:30 and 10:30 am. Tickets are $8 for children, with parents admitted free of charge.
