Madonna Learning Center: A Christmas Gift, Change of Heart

The Madonna Learning Center Christmas Program is one of the most highly anticipated programs of the year at the GPAC. This Christmas pageant is performed by a small group of students and adults with intellectual disabilities, ages 4 and up. At first glance, it may seem like any other school program this time of year, but this is no regular performance. These performers struggle everyday with many of the tasks that their typical peers do with ease.

Each year, the show is created by integrating learning through the arts and showcasing the students’ many gifts. It’s a time of excitement, anticipation and joy for the students – they eagerly anticipate their performance every year. Students and faculty put a great deal of effort into the production of the play --- hours spent practicing songs and lines, sewing costumes and making it perfect for friends and family! From the first performance to the final curtain, families and community are entertained and enlightened by the pure, heart-felt joy of the students as their spirit shines forth in their performance.

Attendees return year after year to kick off the holiday season as the play always reminds them to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.  The 2017 production, “A Change of Heart”, looks to be commensurate with those before as it focuses on the heart.  Come along with the students of Madonna Learning Center as they take you on a Magical Christmas Journey.  The heart of their town has grown empty and people have forgotten the real reason for the season. See how the students of Madonna transform the broken heart of the town with the help from some very special butterflies. Through their acts of kindness, the students share their Love, Light, and Laughter in a way that will leave your heart smiling throughout the holiday season!
