Artist Reception with ACT-SO of Memphis

ART OUT LOUD! - A Reflection of Student Voices

Now a little about the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics(ACT-SO): It was founded in 1978 by author and journalist Vernon Jarrett and is now sponsored by the NAACP. Jarrett wanted to provide hope, inspiration and recognition to those young people who aspired to vocations and positions other than entertainers and athletes. Approximately half a million students have participated in the contest's 30 categories since its inception. Quite a few celebrities such as Tyrese Gibson, Anthony Anderson and Will Smith are included in that number. Like GPAC, ACT-SO seeks to "educate, engage, enrich and transform" the community.
