The GPAC Youth Symphony Program will present Screen Time featuring iconic music from film and television on Sunday, April 26, at 4:00 p.m. This semester, our student musicians explored the powerful art of film scoring, studying how composers use orchestral music to create adventure, emotion, suspense, and wonder on big and little screens. From sweeping heroic themes to tender, heartfelt melodies, this program showcases music that brings unforgettable cinematic moments to life. The performance will include the Mozart String Ensemble, Mendelssohn String Orchestra, Chamber Strings, and Wind Ensemble, culminating in a featured performance by the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra with soloist Poppy Wang. Be sure to arrive early for a special pre-concert performance in the lobby by musicians from the Iris Collective Chamber Program.
Poppy Wang, a seventh grader at Houston Middle School, has studied flute with Ms. Myung Kim for three years. Her competitive achievements include first place in the MTNA Tennessee Junior Woodwind Competition, the TMTA Elementary Woodwind Solo, and the International Grande Music Competitions, as well as second prize in the ENKOR International Competition. A top-chair flutist in the All-West Blue Band, Poppy also performs with the Germantown Youth Symphony Orchestra. In her free time, she enjoys singing and ice skating.
