Don’t Monkey with Broadway

The legendary Patti LuPone is a three-time Tony Award-winner for her performances as Joanne in the award-winning production of Company, Madame Rose in the Broadway revival of the classic Gypsy, and the title role in the original Broadway production of Evita. Other Tony-nominated roles include Best or Featured Actress in a Musical in The Robber Bridegroom, Anything Goes, Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and War Paint.

In London, she won the Olivier Award for her performances as Fantine in the original production of Les Misérables and in the Acting Company production of The Cradle Will Rock. She also created the role of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award, and recreated her Broadway performance of Maria Callas in Master Class.

Among her many accolades, LuPone has been recognized with eight Drama Desk Award nominations, winning four times for Evita, Anything Goes, Gypsy, and Company, and six Outer Critics Circle Award nominations, winning three times for Patti LuPone on Broadway, Gypsy, and Company.

A star of the screen as well as the stage, she has appeared in 13 films, including Driving Miss Daisy and Witness. She has graced television with Emmy-nominated roles in The Song Spinner and Frasier along with outstanding performances in The Simpsons, Penny Dreadful, and Life Goes On, among many others.

Her recordings include Don’t Monkey with Broadway, Far Away Places, Patti LuPone at Les Mouche, The Lady with the Torch, and many original cast recordings. An artist of many talents, she is also the author of the New York Times Best Seller Patti LuPone: A Memoir.
