Blues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things—and more. Born in Georgia and raised in Washington, the musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV. When he witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle, he determined that his destiny would follow a similar path, and so it has. Over the past 50 years, Robert Cray has developed into one of American music’s most singular artists.
Robert Cray’s story is one of struggle and commitment—struggle and commitment that have led to phenomenal success. He has sold millions of albums and countless concert tickets, won five Grammy Awards, been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, received an Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award, and designed two signature model Fender guitars. Yet for Robert, what’s always mattered most is the music. Every note he plays counts, and every song he sings is delivered as if it is his last. Integrity and intensity are what have guided Cray’s musical career, and he has never cheapened his output or delivered a substandard performance. Indeed, his commitment to making music of the highest standard has won Cray both a loyal audience and the respect of many of popular music’s most legendary figures.
Robert Cray has shared the stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Albert Collins, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Memphis Horns, and the Hi Rhythm Section. Cray’s stinging guitar playing and soulful voice as well as his skills as a band leader and a performer mark him as a keeper of the flame for American roots music and an artist who never fails to deliver.
We are thrilled to present the Robert Cray Band in the intimate setting of the Highland Capital Performance Hall on Saturday, October 24, at 8:00 PM. Don’t miss your chance to see this music legend!
